Since its establishment in 1772, Nagai Co., Ltd. has been consistently engaged in the business related to living spaces.
This is a consistent concept in the products we develop.
We are also working to promote FSCTM-certified products as one means of providing eco-friendly products. Nagai’s fleece wallpaper series “eterno” including “ECO FLEECE” and “Lemilliur” are also FSC-certified products.
In this article, we will introduce FSC certification and our thoughts on the environment.
The Forest Stewardship Council FSCTM is an international non-profit organization established to promote responsible forest management worldwide.
Our products bearing the FSC logo are made from wood from certified forests that meet international standards for “proper forest management” and other low-risk, controlled raw materials.
In Thailand, forest area has been dramatically decreasing.
Illegal deforestation, forest burning, development of land for habitation, agricultural land development, irrigation, hydropower, and road construction are the main causes of the significant decrease in forest area.
Affecting the entire ecosystem, forest protection is one of the most important issues in Thailand.
In the field of building materials, the number of cases of environmental destruction caused by illegal logging of raw materials has been increasing, and the market is demanding not only the use of solid wood for the sake of people’s health, but also the demonstration of “legality” or “sustainability” of the wood for the sake of global environmental conservation.
We have acquired FSC CoC certification as one of the most effective ways to demonstrate the “legality” and “sustainability” of the materials used in the building materials we handle.
Nagai’s fleece wallpaper series is primarily composed of pulp.
Pulp is also made from wood and plants, and we believe it is our responsibility to procure raw materials from properly managed forest resources.
With 18 colors and 3 patterns, it can be used for a wide range of applications from bases to accents.
Pulp and water-based paints can create interiors with a gentle atmosphere. It has antiviral, antibacterial, deodorizing, and VOC adsorption functions to help create a safe and secure space.
A new fleece wallpaper for digital printing has been created to enable a variety of spatial effects. Although it is a fleece (non-woven fabric) made mainly from pulp, it is highly nonflammable and can be used in a variety of spaces. Pulp is made from certified wood and is a material that is friendly to people and the environment. Fleece (non-woven fabric) also has excellent stability and durability.
ECO Fleece is a factory-painted fleece (non-woven fabric) for wallpaper made mainly from pulp and other natural materials, with polyester added for reinforcement. The matte water-based paint finish allows the product to enjoy a beautiful appearance, just like a painted wall.
Plaster, which is used to finish Japanese castles and storehouses, is a naturally occurring wall material that has been used in Japan for centuries. The various functions of its main ingredient, slaked lime, make it suitable for modern airtight housing. Shikkui Fleece is a fleece wallpaper coated with such plaster. This wallpaper combines the advantages of fleece and plaster.
A green building is a building with high environmental performance due to energy, water, and equipment.
By using energy and water consumption more efficiently, the environmental impact can be reduced. This also reduces the running costs of buildings.
As an effort to conserve resources and protect the global environment, green building is becoming popular not only in Japan but also around the world.
Certification mechanisms for evaluating the environmental performance of such buildings are spreading around the world.
Third-party certification of a building’s environmental performance ensures the building’s performance and further enhances its appeal to the market.
With the growing momentum of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), there is also a growing demand for the use of environmentally friendly buildings.
Green building certification programs include LEED, which is becoming increasingly popular around the world. In some of these green building certifications, the use of FSC-certified wood is subject to evaluation.
Nagai’s fleece wallpaper series “eterno” can be overcoated with water-based paints.
Ordinary vinyl cloth deteriorates quickly over time, yellowing and opening up within a few years.
Deteriorated vinyl cloth needs to be replaced, in which case the existing wallpaper must be removed and discarded, which has been pointed out to have a high environmental impact.
In the city of Berlin, Germany, the Administrative Regulation on Procurement and the Environment (VwVBU) prohibits the use of PVC products, including paper, in public buildings and public housing construction.
eterno” can be painted over with water-based paint without removing the original wallpaper, reducing waste during remodeling.
