01 / Is Eco Fleece really scratch-resistant?

One measure of durability is “tensile strength.
As the name suggests, this is a measure of the durability of wallpaper when it is pulled from both ends.
This is an indicator of whether or not the wallpaper is resistant to tearing when the building frame moves.

Ecofleece is a wallpaper with high tensile strength and is resistant to wallpaper cracking and tearing.

Is it resistant to scratches and friction?

This time, we conducted an experiment focusing on “scratch resistance” from a different perspective than tensile strength.
Scratches are likely to occur in daily life, such as when furniture is hit against it or a bag is rubbed against it, and we would like to see how much resistance ECOFLEET has to such scratches.

02 / Friction Resistance Tests

Experiments were conducted using experimental equipment from a public testing institute.
This time we used a surface friction testing machine. This machine is capable of applying friction at a constant pressure, and objective data can be obtained by comparing various specimens under the same conditions.

Experiments on friction by “points” such as scratches

An experiment was conducted to simulate a “scratch” caused by a piece of furniture or a bag hitting the jig.
A wooden rod was attached to a jig and moved back and forth 15 times with a load of 500g.

The results of the experiment are as follows.
The surface of general vinyl cloth was torn and the backing paper was exposed.
The eco-fleece did not become a major scratch, although a shine appeared on the coating.

Experiments on friction by “surfaces” such as rubbing

Experiments were also conducted to simulate the “rubbing” that occurs in daily activities.

Here, sandpaper was attached to the jig, and 20 round trips were made with a 300 g load applied.
This did not show as clear a difference as the scratch experiment, but there were no noticeable scratches compared to other wallpapers.

03 / Weaknesses of Eco fleece

Experiments have provided valid results on the durability of Eco fleece.
However, Eco fleece has some weaknesses that come from the characteristics of the material. We will be honest with you.

Reacts with metal (can be removed with an eraser or melamine sponge)

When in contact with metal, the paint components may react and form black lines.

It is most likely to occur in your room from bag clasps, furniture, etc. rubbing against it.
This can be removed by lightly rubbing with an eraser or melamine sponge.

Shine due to friction is likely to occur

In this experiment, the Eco fleece showed fairly strong strength, but shininess occurred relatively quickly.

04 / How to maintain Eco fleece

ECO Fleece can be coated over with water-based paints.
Repair paints are also available if scratches or shine are a concern. Since ECO Fleece is finished with water-based paint, it can be repaired with the same paint.
The top coat is applied while wiping off with diluted repair paint.
